Who we are
Untype is a speech-to-text app for Windows, operated by Shimul Asgur (sole trader) in the United Kingdom. For privacy purposes, we are the "data controller" responsible for your information. You can reach us any time at shimul@asgur.co.uk.
What we collect
Account details
Your email address and password. Your password is scrambled (hashed) before storage; we never see or store it in plain text.
Payment details
Handled entirely by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we only keep a reference that lets Stripe charge your saved card.
Your voice
When you press the dictation shortcut, the app records your speech and sends it away to be turned into text (see below). We do not store your audio or the text it produces.
Usage totals
The amount of dictation you use each month, so we can bill you correctly.
Basic technical data
Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically processes connection data such as IP address to keep the service secure.
How we use your voice
To turn your speech into text, the app sends your audio to OpenAI (based in the United States). OpenAI converts it to text and sends it back. Under OpenAI's API terms, your audio is not used to train its models. We do not keep the audio or the transcript on our systems once you have your text.
Who we share data with
We only share what's needed to run the service, with:
OpenAI (USA)
To transcribe your speech.
Stripe
To process payments.
Cloudflare
To host and secure the service.
Sending data outside the UK
Your audio is processed by OpenAI in the United States. This transfer is protected by the standard data-protection safeguards in OpenAI's data processing terms.
How long we keep it
Audio and transcripts — not kept at all.
Account and billing records — kept while your account is active, and afterwards only as long as the law requires (for example, UK tax rules require us to keep financial records for 6 years).

You have the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. To exercise any of these, just email us — see How to contact us below.
Cookies
We use a single sign-in cookie to keep you logged in to your account page. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version on this page.
